A little bridal beauty preparation from the bride and bridal party can make an enormous difference.
After working with wedding parties throughout Savannah, Charleston, Washington DC, Colorado, Hudson Valley and destination weddings, these are some of the most important things we want every bride to know.
1. Wash and Dry Your Hair the Night Before
Unless you’ve specifically booked a blow-dry, wash, condition, and completely blow-dry your hair the evening before the wedding.
Don’t intentionally leave it dirty because you’ve heard dirty hair styles better.
Professional hairstylists can add texture and grip. Excessive oil and product buildup can actually make curls harder to hold.
2. Arrive With Dry Hair
This applies to the entire bridal party.
A standard formal hairstyling appointment doesn’t automatically include the time required to blow-dry wet hair.
If someone wants a professional blow-dry, arrange it in advance so the appropriate time can be included in your schedule.
3. Wash and Dry Your Extensions
If you’re using clip-in extensions, wash them before the wedding.
Some brand-new extensions have a coating that makes them shiny in the package but can interfere with styling.
Shampoo and condition them, gently comb them, and allow them to dry completely.
Bring all pieces to your appointment.
4. Bring Your Veil and Hair Accessories
Your hairstylist needs to understand how your accessories interact with your hairstyle.
Bring your veil, combs, pins, decorative clips, flowers, or other hairpieces.

5. Follow Your Beauty-Treatment Timeline
Avoid experimenting with aggressive new skincare immediately before your wedding.
If you’re planning a facial, wax, spray tan, or other beauty treatment, schedule it with enough time for your skin to settle.
For spray tans specifically, we generally recommend approximately two days before the wedding.
6. Tell Us About Allergies
Please communicate allergies and sensitivities beforehand.
For example, if you have a latex allergy, let us know so your makeup artist can bring an appropriate non-latex lash adhesive.
7. Have Inspiration Ready
Save photographs of hair and makeup you love.
Your references don’t have to be identical.
You might like the eyes in one photograph, the skin finish in another, and the lip color in a third.
Tell your artist what you don’t like, too.
Communication is one of the most important parts of creating a bridal look that feels like you.
8. Be Ready at Your Scheduled Time

If your bridesmaids have assigned times, make sure everyone knows them beforehand.
Someone who is scheduled for makeup shouldn’t disappear to shower five minutes before her appointment.
Keeping everyone available allows the morning to remain relaxed instead of turning into a race against the clock.
9. Wear Something Easy to Remove
Choose a robe, button-down shirt, or other top that doesn’t need to be pulled over your finished hairstyle and makeup.
It sounds small until someone realizes she has to pull a tight T-shirt over a completed updo.
10. Eat and Hydrate
Wedding mornings can become surprisingly busy.
Eat breakfast. Drink water.
You don’t want to realize halfway through makeup that you’ve had nothing but champagne since 7 a.m.
